Unit 1: A Church out of the Culture, John Burke
The vision for a church out of the culture is introduced in the opening pages of No Perfect People Allowed, “This is not church for a post-Christian culture, where Christians huddle up behind the fortress walls and make forays out into the messy culture, but a church molded out of a post-Christian people – an indigenous church, rising up out of the surrounding culture to form the Body of Christ!” This video describes the theological imperatives and unique characteristics of a church out of the culture.
Unit 2: Out of the Culture Process, Craig Whitney
If you want to become a church out of the culture, you must start a church out of the culture. Your process will produce your product. This video provides an overview of ELI’s out of the culture process.
Unit 3: A Culture of Inclusive Community, Matt Jeffreys
The buzzword of the day is missional-incarnational. In simple terms, this means dwelling among the people of your community, authentically loving and serving them like Jesus did. This video will challenge you to do this in your own life as you create a culture that values and intentionally invests in building authentic relationships.
Unit 4: A Culture of Authentic Relationships, Gary Foran
“Come as you are.” “No perfect people allowed.” This means people will belong who don’t behave like believers. It will get messy – sometimes really messy – but this messy soil is where seeds grow into fruit. This video will expose you to the mess and focus on how you can create an inclusive community of abundant grace and truth.
Unit 5: A Culture of Generous Serving, Steve McNary
Consumerism is a predominant theme in American culture and much of the American church. Christians consume all kinds of religious goods and services. Many see the church as just another provider of what they need and want. This video will focus on creating a culture of serving that turns consumers into the kind of people Jesus said would be “the servant of all.”
Unit 6: A Culture of Spiritual Transformation, Rick Shurtz/Sherilyn Villareal
“Come as you are” is only half of the story. “Don’t stay that way” is the rest of the story. Sadly, what many leaders experience are people who never change. This video will show you how to create a culture of transformation where imperfect people become all God intended them to be.
Unit 7: A Culture of Reproducing Leadership, Craig Whitney
No one will debate the importance of leaders in a healthy church. The challenge in a church out of the culture is making them. This video will focus on how to identify, develop and train those who discover faith to become reproducing leaders.
Unity 8: Catalytic Gatherings, John Burke
An out of the culture church operates with distinct values, these are reflected in the catalytic weekly services. This video will describe how and why these services are critical in helping people discover faith and develop as Christ-followers.
